Stand! Chapels--Post-It Monday

Mrs. Kim Zomer

September 26, 2022

Stop into Dakota Christian School this week and you might think on a walk through the halls that we’ve bought stock in Post-It Notes! Monday became an impromptu Post-It Note Monday for the big buddies as they prayed at the end of chapel for their “mids” and “lids” (middles and littles). They spent a moment penning a quick message of encouragement for their buddies and then stuck them to either their locker or their classroom door.
Chapels are part of the DCS way of life with 7th-12th meeting both Monday and Thursday around 9:50 a.m., 3rd-6th meeting Thursday at 8:30 a.m., and Pre-2nd meeting Friday at 8:30 a.m. We are meeting this year under the enormous umbrella theme of STAND! Each month we follow the trail of a different “Stand” phrase. September is “Stand Up!” We are asking ourselves “What do I believe?” and looking deeply into the stories of Daniel and his friends Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah—you probably know them better as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Lessons on resolving what you value and believe BEFORE you step into a danger zone, making choices about behavior based on the truth of God’s Word to us, and knowing the right voice so you can follow it have been the heart of this month’s messages from God. We’ve chosen between yummy and yucky look-alike food choices, played a little “Let’s Make a Deal,” and observed someone take a blind-folded walk through an obstacle course while coached by conflicting voices. Pray that these visual, active ways of digging into God’s Truth will be planted deep in our children’s hearts, preparing them for the inevitably hard choices they will have to make every day.

Welcome

A Final Farewell

The end of the school year has come and gone, and June has flown by as well. As I look forward to a new job as K-5 principal in DeMotte, Indiana, I find myself also looking back at the past 9 years here at Dakota Christian.

I moved to South Dakota as a Calvin College graduate, not knowing anyone in SD, and having just heard of Corsica from a few friends and family in Indiana and Michigan. I didn’t really have many expectations, really thinking that I’d teach for 2-3 years, get some experience, then land a job back in the Michiana area, closer to friends and family. Turns out, God had MUCH different plans than I did.

He orchestrated quite the transition for me at DC, an opportunity to become a school leader extremely quickly - 4 years - into my career. I doubt that many other schools besides DC would have offered me such an opportunity. Clearly, God knew the direction for my life, and laid out the plan for me to move up into administration, an opportunity that I will forever be grateful to the DC community for.

The thoughts continue to swirl as I reflect. However, I also want to give some encouragement to the students, the staff, and the society as a new year quickly approaches with some pretty major changes. God is sovereign, and his plan is always a good one for those found in him, even if we don’t understand at all times. He takes care of every member of his flock. His faithfulness to Dakota Christian has been evident throughout the years, and he will continue to be faithful now. Don’t ever doubt that, even when things cause you to wonder why.

I also want to take one last chance to emphasize the importance of Christian education, and an institution like Dakota Christian. DC’s goal, and the goal of Christian education in general, is to help parents raise children in Christ - to learn to live as servants of the Lord and to seek him in every single aspect of their lives. This mission is the reason I love Christian education. I pray that DCS continues to stay faithful to this mission as students continue to come through the doors of the school.

Thank you to the school, the students, the staff, and the society for everything over the past nine years. Words cannot express how much I’ve enjoyed my time here. I’ll be praying for the community continually as God continues to lead each and every one of us!

In Christ,

Jeremy Boer
