JH Girls Basketball

On Tuesday, November 27, the junior high girls had a basketball game. This game was against West Boyd. They played in Lake Andes. There were two games that day. The first game the girls played 2 quarters and won 12 to 6. The second game they played all 4 quarters. They won the game with a score of 36 to 19.

The Junior High girls basketball team traveled to Tyndall to take on the Bon Homme Cavaliers. The 6th graders won their game, the first game of the evening starting 4:30 pm. The 7th graders played but lost in a losing battle. The eight graders lost but played a good game and came up short by five points.


 

3/4th Graders Travel to the Symphony

On Monday, November 19, the third and fourth graders traveled to Sioux Falls to attend the Symphony. The kids enjoyed the Symphony very much; some of their favorite things were the interesting instruments that were used and the up-beat nature of the concert. After the concert, the kids went to eat at Culver's. After eating, the kids got to go swimming for a fun time afterwards. The kids said they thoroughly enjoyed their trip and experience at the Symphony.

The junior high girls had their second tournament on November 10.  This time they only sent 2 teams to this tourney. These teams were 7th grade and 8th grade. The 7th grade team went 0-4. They lost to Wagner, Platte, Parker, and Parkston. The 8th grade team went 2-2. They won against Wagner and Platte. However, they lost to Parker and Parkston. Their next game is on November 13.

The 6th-8th grade girls traveled to Lake Andes to play Wagner on November 13 to play a girls’ junior high basketball game. The 6th/7th graders played first but it didn’t go so well. The second game the 8th graders played. This game also didn’t go so well. The junior high Thunder lost both games. This wasn’t the best game for the Thunder but as they say, “when you hit rock bottom, the only way you can go is up.”

The Junior high girls had their first tournament on the 3rd of November. The girls took three teams to this tourney. These teams were the 8th grade, 7th grade, and the 6th grade teams. The 8th grade team went 2-1 winning against Wagner, and Marty. They however lost in the championship game against Avon. The second team was the 7th grade team. They went 0-3 they lost to Scotland, Gregory, and Bon Homme. The last team was the 6th grade team. They went 2-1 winning against Marty and Bonn Homme. They also lost to Arlington in the championship game. They play their next tourney on November 10.

The AC/DC’s Lady Thunder junior highers played Burke Cougars at Dakota Christian for a jh basketball game on December 8th. There were three games that night starting at 5:15. The first game was 6th graders. The six graders won with a score of 34-30. The second game was the 7th graders who weren’t able to come away with the win. The 8th graders, on the other hand, were able to beat their opponent by over 10 points. There were remarks that they played good ball and played well together as a team.

On Thursday, November 1 the AC/DC volleyball team played their last game. They took on the Cougars in South Central. They fought hard but did not come out with the win. The first set the score was 12 to 25, the second set was 10 to 25, and the last set was 4 to 25.

All-State Choir

On Thursday, October 27 the All-State participants left for Rapid City. The group was made up of Isabel Pheifer, Soprano; Hannah Hansum, Alto; Alex Mass, Tenor; and Cameron Sybesma, Bass. They left after school was released for parent-teacher conference on Thursday. They got up there and registered for the next day. On Friday morning they went to Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. There they sang during the day. They had a break for lunch and supper. The group was also spot checked on Friday, and they did a great job. Being spot checked means that the selected group and 3 others go into a small room and sing a part of 2 songs from memory without accompaniment. There are many different groups that do this. They finished singing around nine and went back to the hotel to rest up for the next day. Saturday morning they had practice and got done at noon and got ready for the concert. The concert started at 7 and finished just before 9. They had a great time.

Thunder Takes the Win on the Road

The Lady Thunder traveled down to Gregory for the Region 6B quarterfinals. First match started out with sophomore Mackenzie Muckey from DC serving the first nine points. The Thunder kept the momentum going all through the night. The Thunder came out with a great lead winning the first match with the score ending 25-10. The second match ended with 25-21 with AC/DC still holding on to their lead. The Thunder put an end to the night with a 3-0 win over the Gregory Spikers with the third set ending 25-15.

Thunder Loses to Gregory at Home

The Thunder played at Dakota Christian School for their last regular season game of the year. They welcomed the Gregory Spikers on Monday, October 22. Right off the bat, the crowd could tell they were in for a good night of volleyball. The first set of the night was a close one with the Spikers just winning the set, 24-26. The next set was a fight but the Thunder still managed to fall behind losing the second set 23-25. It was now or never for the Thunder; they had to fight back like never before and that’s exactly what they did. They came digging back out of their 0-2 hole and won the third set 25-20. The Thunder kept the momentum and carried it over into the fourth set which helped them win it 25-23. The fifth set was a battle. Each point was back and forth, keeping it a close and intense set. In the end, the Thunder wasn’t able to pull it down and lost the very tight set, 14-16. The Thunder ended their regular season 19-11.


 

 

State Cross Country

On Friday, October 11, the Cross Country team traveled to Sioux Falls for the last meet of the year, state. They jogged the course in the afternoon then went to eat. Saturday morning they left for the meet. They got there early enough to watch the other teams run. All the classes of Boys ran first then it was time for the girls. There were 110 runners for the girls. The girls ran hard and Isabella got 2nd, Hannah placed 92nd, and Sonya placed 105th. They are excited for next year and what will come in the future!!

AC/DC Travel to Mitchell Christian

On Friday, October 19 the Lady Thunder faced our fellow followers in Christ at Mitchell Christian. The Lady Thunder came into the game very confident. The first set the Lady Thunder playing their best, winning the set 25 to 15. The second match went the same way ending in the same score. Going into the third and hopefully final set, the Lady Eagles fought back and gave the Lady Thunder a run for their money. But the Lady Thunder still came out victorious with the final score of 25 to 23. The Lady Thunder will be hosting their last regular season game on Monday, October 22 at DCS.


 

TDA-AC/DC ThunderHawks Fall to Irene-Wakonda Eagles

    The TDA - AC/DC ThunderHawks’ season comes to an end as they fall to the Irene-Wakonda Eagles. The ThunderHawks played strong all the way up to their last game; finishing the regular season with a 6-game win streak. Unfortunately, the Eagles’ strength was too much for the ThunderHawks, and they fell 51-0 at the half.
 

Thunder Nation Tournament

Dakota Christian School held The Thunder Nation Tournament on October 13, 2018. There were two courts going with 11 teams total participating in the tournament. The first game of the day was The Thunder vs Crow Creek. The Thunder won in 2 sets and then played again right after. They played Tripp-Delmont/Armour winning also in 2 sets. The day continued with many sets of volleyball being played. The fellowship committee served a wide variety of foods including breakfast pizza and donuts in the morning and pizza in the afternoon. Throughout the day, the Thunder played Freeman Academy/Marion, Scotland, and Colome, winning them all. The Thunder won their pool play and faced the top team of the other pool, Bridgewater-Emery. It was a fight to the finish, but the Lady Thunder came up just short in the first set losing 25-27. In the second set, the Thunder lost their determination and lost 12-25. The Thunder finished the day with a respectable 5-1 record. Overall, the tournament was a fun day, but a long one with twelve hours of volleyball being played. The Thunder Nation tournament will be held next year at the new school in Lake Andes.


 

AC/DC Cross Country Region 5B Meet

On Thursday October 11, The AC/DC Cross Country team traveled to Freeman for the Region 5B meet. The top 20 for boys and girls go to state, which will be in Sioux Falls on Saturday, October 20. For the Boys Varsity, Peter placed 22nd and Tony placed 31st. The Girls Varsity had a team consisting of Isabella, Hannah, and Sonya. Isabella was region champion, Hannah got 16th, and Sonya got 28th. The Varsity Girls took home 3rd in the region of teams. This allows the whole team to go to state. They are all super excited and will be working hard up until state.

AC/DC Falling to Wagner

On Thursday, October 11, the Lady Thunder faced the Lady Red Raiders. The first set the Lady Thunder came out flat footed losing the first set 25-18. Coming into the second set the Lady Thunder were still not able to find their rhythm and lost the second set 25-6. Then the third match came around, with the Lady Thunder fighting back, but could not quite get the job done. The Lady Thunder fell 26-24. Moving the Thunder’s record to 13-8. The Lady Thunder will be hosting a tournament October 13 at the Dakota Christian School.

AC/DC Loses in Three to Burke

The Lady Thunder traveled to Burke on Tuesday, October 9 to play the Burke Cougars. The night didn’t go as they had hoped. In the first set, the Thunder fought but the Cougars won the first set 25-19. The second set the Thunder lost their fight losing 25-11. The third set was much of the same and the Thunder lost 25-13.


 

AC/DC Beats the Black Panthers

On Saturday, September 6, the Lady Thunder faced the Lady Panthers. The Lady Thunder had a lot of focus coming into the game. The first set started off very close and ended the same way, with the score being 25-23 with the Lady Thunder on top. In the second set, the Lady Thunder started very hot. Taking the lead early on, the Lady Thunder finished with the final score being 25-18. Moving on to the third and hopefully final set, the Lady Thunder had to dig deep. With the final scoring being 25-19, the Lady Thunder took the win. With this win, improving the Lady Thunders record to 13-6. Their next game is October 9, facing the Burke Cougars in Burke.

On Thursday, October 4, the Cross Country team traveled to their last regular season meet. For the junior high kids, this was their last meet for the year. Kalee took 2nd place in the girls and Talea took 4th place in the girls. Ryder took 16th place in the boys. Tony ran JV and placed 12th place. Peter ran with the Varsity boys, and placed 24th with a time of 20.24. For the varsity girls, Isabella got 3rd with a time of 19.11, Hannah got 12th with a time of 21.59, and Sonya got 24th. The varsity boys and girls will run at the region meet on Wednesday, October 10. They will be taking the top 20 boys and girls in each division to state.

The Thunderhawks continue their winning streak by defeating the Gayville-Volin Raiders. The first play of the game, for the Thunderhawks, was a 60 yard passing touchdown. From that point on, the offense didn’t take their foot of the gas. The offense was able to score 52 points. The Thunderhawk defense was equally decisive in holding the Raider offense to only 8 points. The Thunderhawks play next week in Scotland for the final game of the regular season.

AC/DC Takes Corsica/Stickney to 5 sets

On Monday, October 1 the Lady Thunder traveled to Corsica to face the Corsica/Stickney Jaguars. The Thunder started off slow and were down 0-2, but strived to keep the night going.  Coming out strong at the start of the third set, the Thunder was able take this set and the next set (4th set) in a tight battle. In the fifth set, the Jaguars leaped forward and took a mighty lead, keeping it all the way through the end of the fifth set. The Thunder battled but came up short at the end of the night. Set scores were 18-25, 26-28, 25-21, 25-17, and 10-15.


 

Lady Thunder Take Down Cowgirls

Tuesday night down in Lake Andes the Lady Thunder faced the Colome Cowgirls. The first set went to the Lady Thunder with a score of 25-23. The second set went the same way. It was a close game, but the Lady Thunder won again with the score of 25-22. Going into the third and final match, the Lady Thunder came in rolling. Point after point, the Lady Thunder secured the win in the third match, score being 25-15. With this win, the Lady Thunder’s record is now 11-4.

AC/DC Win On The Road

AC/DC traveled to Menno Monday night to start the week off with a win. The Thunder started off the night strong winning the first two sets. In the third set, the Thunder lost their fire and lost the set. Coming back strong, the Thunder won a close fourth set to end the night. Set scores were 25-19, 25-18, 18-25, 25-23.


 

Dakota Christian Marching Band

The 5-12th grade band traveled to Platte on Friday, September 21. They took first place in their class as well as first place overall. Their color guard received Outstanding Color Guard award and Hannah Hansum received Outstanding Drum Major. Her score was the highest awarded that day, even among the top bands. The Dakota Christian Marching Band travels to Chamberlain, September 28 to march in the parade for their last parade for the year.

On Saturday, September 22 the AC/DC Cross Country team went to the Platte golf course. They all ran very good and Isabella and Hannah both got their personal bests. Isabella got 4th and Hannah got 30th in the Varsity race. Peter placed 7th and Tony placed 22nd in the JV division. Sonya received 10th in the girls’ JV. Ryder placed 12th in the boys’ JH and Kalee received 4th in the girls’ JH. Their next race will be on Thursday September 27 in Burke for the Great Plains Conference.

The Thunderhawks are on a role with their fourth consecutive win of the year. The Thunderhawks played the Corsica-Stickney Jaguars for Tripp-Delmont’s homecoming. The Thunderhawks lead the first half 14-6. They slammed the door on Corsica’s offense throughout the second half while the Thunderhawks scored a couple more touchdowns. The game ended with the Thunderhawks defeating the Jaguars, 26-6.

On Monday September 17 the AC/DC Cross Country team traveled to Tyndall to run at the Bon Homme meet. Isabell placed 2nd and Hannah placed 27th in the girls’ varsity. Sonya placed 8th in the JV girls. Peter placed 20th and Tony placed 41st in the JV boys’ division. In the Junior High boys, Ryder place 22nd, and Kaylee placed 3rd in the Junior High girls. The weather was very hot on Tuesday, and their times were great for that day. They will run again on Saturday September 22.


 

AC/DC Thunder vs TDA Nighthawks

On Tuesday, September 18, the Lady Thunder played the Nighthawks. It was a close game throughout all five sets. The score to the first set was 24-26 favoring the Nighthawks. The score to the second set was 25-16 with the Thunder on top. Moving into the third set, the girls confidence kept getting better. The fourth set the Thunder could not quite get the job done. With the score of 19-25 in favor of the Nighthawks. Going in to the fifth and final set, it was a tie game. The Lady Thunder were determined to get the win. This is exactly what they did. With the final score of 15-6 with the Thundering winning. The Lady Thunder were happy with the win, but they were not happy with the way they played.


 

AC/DC Travels to Parkston

The Lady Thunder traveled to Parkston Tuesday, September 4. The JV lost in two sets but the Thunder hadn’t lost all fight yet. The Varsity players came out strong and ended the night in 3 sets. Set scores were 25-19, 25-23, 25-17.

The Thunderhawks win again. Last Friday our boys played the game of their lives during our homecoming game of 2018. We faced the Burke Cougars and came out victorious. At the end of the first half the score was 12-16, Cougars with the lead. After halftime something got into our boys and we were not going to lose. The Thunderhawks could not keep the rolling Cougars out of the end zone. Then we hit the fourth quarter, our boys realized that it was do or die. After a Cougars touchdown early in the fourth, the Thunderhawks had 22 unanswered points. In the final minutes of the game the players and the crowd were both going crazy. When it was all said and done the Thunderhawks came out victorious, with the final score being 40-32 Thunderhawks on top. This is the first time in many years that our boys have won a homecoming game. The Thunderhawks are victorious once again.

TDA-AC/DC @ Centerville

The TDA-AC/DC ThunderHawks went to Centerville duke it out against the Tornadoes. The game was well fought. The ThunderHawks took the victory with a commanding score of 38-6. Defensive end Gabe Baas’s opinion of the game includes: “The guys played hard and deserved the victory, but we need to prepare for the future games.”

On Monday, September 10, the AC/DC Thunder Cross Country team traveled to Pickstown to participate in the Wagner Cross Country Meet. The High School Girls had their first team in the varsity division, which placed second to Wagner. Isabella placed 1st, Hannah placed 7th, and Sonya placed 9th. Peter moved up to the varsity level for this meet. He placed 17th in the varsity boys. Tony ran JV boys and placed 11th. Kaylee and the newest member to our team Taleah ran in the JH girls. Taleah placed 1st with Kaylee close behind in 2nd. Ryder ran in the JH boys and did great with the place of 6th. Their next meet will be on Thursday, September 13 in Chamberlin. They are hoping to continue to improve on their times over the next coming weeks.

On September 6, the AC/DC Cross Country team traveled to Scotland to run. The meet was postponed from Tuesday to Thursday. They ran around the football field, park, and baseball diamond. Hannah and Isabella ran the varsity. Isabella placed 4th and Hannah placed 31st. Sonya, Peter, and Tony ran JV. Sonya placed 9th, Peter placed 4th, and Tony placed 14th. Kalee and Ryder ran in the junior high section. Kalee placed 3rd and Ryder placed 16th. They did amazing for their second meet and will run next monday in Pickstown for the Wagner meet.

The Thunder players traveled to Scotland last week Tuesday, September 11 for their one game during homecoming week. The JV started off the night with a win in three. Next up was Varsity; they started out a little slower than usual. As the night went on, the Lady Thunder dug themselves out of a hole being down 0-2 in sets. This fired up the Thunder and they went full out winning set three, four, and also the fifth set in 15. Set scores were 23-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-14, 15-10.

The Thunderhawks got their first win last Friday against the Avon Pirates. The Thunderhawks scored quickly in the opening possession and the offense never lost their momentum scoring a total of 50 points. The Thunderhawk defense was equally as effective, only allowing the Pirates to score 6 points.

On August 25 the AC/DC Cross Country team traveled to Mitchell for their first cross country meet. This year the team added a few runners. The returning runners are Isabella Brouwer, 8th grader, and  Hannah Hansum, Junior. The new runners included Sonya Hansum, Freshman, Peter Backes, 7th grade, Tony Hansum, 7th grade, Ryder Niewenhuis, 6th grade, and Kalee Dykshorn, 6th grade. They ran good for their first meet. Isabella Brouwer, and Hannah Hansum ran Varsity. Isabella placed 2nd and Hannah placed 37 in the girls division. Sonya Hansum, Peter Backes, and Tony Hansum ran JV. Sonya placed 13th in the girls division. Tony placed 15th and Peter placed 7th. Ryder Niewenhuis and Kalee Dykshorn ran at the Junior High level. Kalee placed 11 in the girls division and Ryder placed 24th in the boys division. They had a great first meet and are looking to grow in the future meets.

The Lady Thunder welcomed their guests, the Lady Pirates to Lake Andes last Thursday, August 30th. The Thunder started off slow and were down 0-2 really fast. Coming out strong at the start of the third set, the Thunder were able take this set and the next set (4th set) in a tight battle. The fifth set started a little rocky for the Thunder. After being down, they managed to catch up. Despite their best efforts, the Lady Thunder fell short to the Lady Pirates in the loss by five points. Set scores were 16-25, 18-25, 25-15, 25-15, and 10-15.

ACDC Defeat Bon Homme

It all started with JV opening up the first home game in Lake Andes. The JV of ACDC lost their first game in three sets. Then the varsity began. The first set was back and forth, but the Thunder managed to come up with a win. With a score of 21-25. The second set the Thunder beat them 25-7. The third match didn’t go like the first two. The Thunder lost the third set 25-12. During the fourth set, it was just like the first set; it went back and forth. The Thunder ended up with the win with the score of 21-25. Overall the Thunder were very excited for the win.

Lady Thunder Opens the Volleyball Season in Hanson

The Lady Thunder opened their volleyball season this past Tuesday, August 21, at the Hanson Classic. First game wasn’t what they hoped as they received their first loss of the season to Hanson, 23-25 and 18-25.

Returning Thursday, the Thunder were fired up and ready to go. They beat Gayville/Volin in three close sets, 25-22, 26-28, and 27-25. Right after the intense game, they played Avon Lady Pirates. In the first set, the Thunder got a head start in the lead and kept the lead all the way to the end of the first (26-24). The second set didn’t go as well. They were down 10-1 at the start. Slowly the Thunder fought their way back and made an extreme comeback. The score was 18-23 with Avon looking to take the set, but the Thunder had different plans. They came back fighting to win the set 26-24.

The Thunder plays Bon Homme Tuesday, August 28th in Lake Andes with the JV starting at 6:30.

On August 24 the boys’ football team traveled to Armour to play the Colome Cowboys. In the first half of the game the Thunderhawks defense struggled against the Colome Cowboys offense, which put up 48 points in the first half. In the second half the Thunderhawks rallied and managed to score a touchdown and held the Cowboys to one touchdown. The final score for the Colome Cowboys was 54 points.

The TDA-AC/DC Thunderhawks started off the season with a game against Alcester-Hudson in Armour. The game started out as a great defensive battle with neither team being able to score in the first few possessions.  Towards the end of the first half the offenses of both teams managed to get some points on the board with the Cubs leading the Thunderhawks 12-6.

 Throughout the second half, the Cubs managed to get their offense rolling scoring a total of 34 points to the Thunderhawks 12.
