9)      Why was the Cold War a dangerous time? –both the U.S. & U.S.S.R. possessed nuclear weapons and were locked in a war of deterrence and both countries were afraid of the other using their weapons which would result in the destruction of the world as they knew it.

1)      Europe is becoming a larger economic power in the world

 

2)      Jan 2002 a common currency = Euro started which allows EU citizens to use the same type of money in all countries.

 

3)      The countries have cooperated in areas of science and technology where the costs of research would have been too large for the previously smaller and independent countries.

 

4)      EURATOM was formed to protect workers and the general population from exposure to dangerous levels of radiation and other harmful pollutants.

 

5)      The income gap between the rich/poor have/have nots has become wider (owners of businesses/ workers) –even the nations are developing a wealthy nation and poor nation division

12)  What Problems were caused by the Soviet Union’s rush to develop, industrialize and compete with other nations in the world? (U.S. in particular) –Over 80 years, in its rush to develop and compete, the Soviet Union did great damage to the natural environment across Europe and Asia.  The resulting air, water, and land pollution from these environmental disasters needs to be cleaned up and reversed in order to succeed again.
